BESTIA is a chef-driven multi-regional rustic Italian restaurant in Los Angeles focusing on a "from scratch" approach, offering house-made charcuterie, handmade pasta, and pizza made in an Acunto oven. It also specializes in a dessert menu that is centered around the freshest, most local ingredients possible.

We are currently looking for strong applicants to fill our SOMMELIER position. The ideal candidate is eager to learn and grow with our team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Collaborate to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of the guest experience, service, operational effectiveness, employee retention and satisfaction.
  2. Maintain a wine department that is cohesive with Bestia's beverage philosophy.
  3. Graciously assist guests in selection in recommendations for wine and beverage to accompany menu selections.
  4. Assist in the selection process of wine and spirits under the direction of the Wine Director and the General Manager.
  5. Be ready and willing to assist fellow team members as situations arise to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
  6. Learn and understand Bestia's menu and wine list, being attentive to changes in the menu as well as the meal composition.
  7. Perform all side work applicable to assigned stations. Check bar area for any work that has gone unattended.
  8. Communicate throughout service with the Manager on bar selections of guests.
  9. Create and lead periodic wine education seminars with the service team to continually advance their knowledge and skills.
  10. Work with Wine Director to create and/or maintain the wine book with descriptions of all wines on the list as well as certain spirits.
  11. Enter new wine and pricing information as needed into the point of sale system.
  12. All other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years in a fast-paced fine-dining restaurant and Minimum 1 year as a Sommelier.

AVAILABILITY: Full time, 4-5 days a week with open availability

MENU KNOWLEDGE: Extensive Food, Wine and Spirit knowledge

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Food Handler Permit
  • Current Responsible Beverage Service Certification
  • Able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

COMPENSATION: $17.28/hour + tips and health insurance for full-time employees after 60 days.
