About the position

Reporting to the Center Director, the Kitchen Assistant/Breaker acts as an integral member of the Kids & Company team to assist in the overall management of day-to-day operations at the child care facility. Breakers are responsible for covering breaks, ratios, and other times where needed at the discretion of the center director, in the childcare centers, through the conscientious application of Kids & Company standards.

Kitchen Assistant

  • Responsible for portioning, preparing, and serving all snack items and meals to the children
  • Responsible for handling and preparing special meals and snacks for all allergen children, vegetarians, and any other special dietary needs - labelled from the Commissary kitchen
  • Ensure safe food storage and disposals of all food
  • Complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety and handling legislation
  • Cleaning and sanitizing appliances, utensils, kitchenware, counters, cupboards, & drawers
  • Moping and sweeping floors after every meal; removes trash and recyclable materials at the end of each shift
  • Required to prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events at times

Breaker

  • Provides nurturing care to young children in a group setting
  • Cover breaks for classroom lead teachers
  • Works with the team in the classroom to provide excellent supervision and interaction with children at all times including in all classroom, sleep room, outside/walking and playground activities
  • Help children learn and grow with our personalized curriculum
  • Assist children in activities
  • Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time on the needs of the childcare centres

Specifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels with children, parents and co-workers.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for all documentation, reporting, and classroom operations
  • Strong collaborator and team player
  • Ability to take initiative in and out of the classroom
  • Strong problem-solving skills
