PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Lead Custodian is responsible for the daily custodial and maintenance operation of assigned facilities and grounds. The Lead Custodian is responsible for implementing cleaning procedures to district standard and performing preventative maintenance. The Lead Custodian instructs staff on proper cleaning and maintenance procedures. The Lead Custodian implements health, safety and security procedures in the assigned facility. The Lead custodian is responsible for planning and directing custodial and maintenance operations, and maintaining records as needed. The Lead Custodian performs work cleaning and supporting daily activities in the facility. The Lead Custodian demonstrates professional behavior, promoting positive relationships with students, staff, publics, and peers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
May not always perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities in this position.
Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, and refinishes floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; operate equipment and ensure equipment in maintain and kept clean, wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of trash, change lights, etc.; make certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition according to industry and/or district standards.
Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds daily throughout your shift
Assures safety during inclement weather to including shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, etc.
Applies cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
Adheres to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.
Performs minor repair and maintenance as authorized by administrators.
Lift and move furniture and other items as required for daily operations and summer cleaning.
Lock and unlock buildings, gates, windows and facilities; turn off lights and alarms; raise and lower flags.
Work hours and duties as determined by the Manager of Custodial Services and administrators.
Maintain accurate paperwork
Display pride in the quality and condition of their workplace
Assist personnel as may be required to support others in the completion of their work duties
Document employee issues within 48 hours and go over with the custodian
Supervises staff effectively
Work overtime to cover staffing call-ins and when you are short staffed
Must be available to respond to calls for service when the occasion arises, to include weekends or holidays
Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts staff development and staff training consistent with the goals of the school and the district
Effectively manage resources and staff as part of time management and prioritization strategy
Overseas fellow employee's performances
Must be willing to be available to assist other divisions as requested by supervisor
Monitors and evaluates facility preparedness

EQUIPMENT:
Hand held brooms, mops, dusters, hand vacuum, electric powered pick-up machines, floor scrubbers, pallet jack and a utility machine with a snow blade, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to lead groups of less than people
Ability to read and write competently and perform basic math accurately using fractions and percentages
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
Ability to work safely with exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
Ability to report orally and in writing
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in writing and or in oral form
Ability to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions
Good organizational skills
Ability to perform basic computer duties, emails and supply orders
Ability to work in interior and exterior temperature extremes
Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
Ability to achieve results within time constraints and meet deadlines/schedules
Ability to work under minimal supervision
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS:
5% sitting, 65% walking/lifting 30% standing. Job is performed under severe temperature variations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years' experience as a custodian. Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment. Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines. Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district equipment. Computer skills. Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. Ability to lift up to 50 plus pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone. Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc. Hold a valid state driver's license with a safe driving record. Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all District employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities.
EDUCATION: High School graduation or equivalent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 month position
