This position will work as part of a team to inspect and maintain the structures along Raleighs greenway trail system.
  • Assist with inspections and repairs of bridges, boardwalks, shelters, sidewalks, and other related structures
  • Installs and repairs structures including buildings, signs, benches, fences, shelters, tables and other related amenities
  • Performs preventative equipment maintenance, including replacing worn or damaged parts, and sharpening blades
  • Assists the city in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations
  • May require working extended hours and weekends during storm events
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Knowledge of:
  • Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work
  • Equipment, tools, and material used in the repair and construction of wood and concrete structures such as bridges, boardwalks, sidewalks, decks, benches, signs, shelters, fences, and other facilities
  • Routine maintenance on equipment, including replacing parts, and sharpening blades
  • Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image
Skill In:
  • Operating various construction equipment such as skill saw, reciprocating saw, jig saw, chain saw, concrete saw, angle grinder, impact driver, and drills
  • Various hand tools such as crowbar, prybar, framing hammer, screwdriver, wrenches, rachet/socket
  • Collaborating effectively with a team, including maintenance workers, supervisors, and volunteers, to achieve shared goals
  • Committing to safety protocols and attending required safety training to ensure a safe work environment
  • Performing manual tasks such as carrying lumber, tools, digging holes with post hole diggers, shoveling and raking dirt as well as handling outdoor work in various weather conditions
  • Following directions and meeting standards.
  • Performing routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions
ADA and Other Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
