Anticipated Secondary Maintenance Mechanic

The Mechanic will provide maintenance services with specific responsibility for guiding assigned workers; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; providing information on the proper use of equipment; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; performing minor to major maintenance including emergency repairs; and assisting skilled trades.
This job reports to the Director of Maintenance and Facilities.
Essential Functions:
* Assist with snow removal for the purpose of providing a safe environment for students, staff, and parents.
* Communicates with administrators, personnel, and outside organizations for the purpose of coordinating activities, resolving issues and conflicts, and exchanging information.
* Confers with immediate supervisor and assists with the coordination of day-to-day maintenance activities for the purpose of ensuring the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of District buildings, facilities, and grounds.
* Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
* Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of ensuring timely completion of projects.
* Implements assigned programs and/or projects (e.g. inspection schedules, preventive maintenance programs, etc.) for the purpose of conforming to established guidelines.
* Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for decision-making, taking appropriate action, and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
* Inspects buildings and facilities (e.g. repair work, building and grounds projects, equipment, etc. ) for the purpose of determining immediate maintenance and repair needs and/or recommending removal of fire, safety, or health hazards.
* Inspects completed work for the purpose of ensuring the quality of work standards are met and identifying preventive maintenance requirements.
* Installs classroom and office systems components for the purpose of providing a safe and workable environment.
* Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. work orders, labor/material estimates, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail.
* Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions.
* Oversees less experienced workers and/or summer help for the purpose of developing their technical skills and adhering to regulatory requirements.
* Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
* Performs routine and preventive maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of district-wide systems.
* Prepares reports and written materials related to assigned activities and personnel (e.g. estimates, actual costs, work order status, computerized climate control system reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
* Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Other Functions:
* Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
* Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining the availability of required items in order to complete jobs efficiently.
* Recommends plans, policies, procedures, and/or specific actions for the purpose of addressing department goals, objectives, and work-related needs.
* Trains assigned personnel on procedures used for general maintenance repair for the purpose of developing their professional and safety awareness skills.
* Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at a job site.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
* Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and/or laws; operating equipment used in the trades; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; handling hazardous materials; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
* Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintenance programs, state and federal requirements regarding maintenance at school sites; and codes, regulations, and laws related to the job functions, adhering to safety practices and procedures.
* Ability is required to gather, collate, and/or classify data and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances along with the ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data and utilize a wide variety of job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues, create action plans and requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem-solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team and adapting to changing priorities is required.
Responsibility:
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job functions.
Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard-free environment.
Experience:
Job-related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education:
Targeted job-related education that meets the organization's prerequisite requirements.
Terms of Employment:
* Full-time, 12-month position beginning July 1, 2025
* $30.80 per hour after a successful probationary period.
* Hours - Monday thru Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
