Janitorial Worker Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Janitorial Worker to maintain cleanliness and aseptic conditions in the labor and delivery areas. This role requires interaction with nurses and involves daily cleaning duties to ensure a hygienic environment. Responsibilities Clean rooms throughout the night in the labor and delivery areas. Interact and collaborate with nurses in the department. Maintain clean and aseptic conditions by vacuuming, scouring, dust mopping, high dusting, making beds, and removing trash/linen. Use vacuum and cleaning materials effectively during daily work. Assist with spot cleaning rooms while patients are present, including dust mopping, pulling trash, and cleaning bathrooms and high touch areas. Conduct discharge cleaning when patients leave the room, including pulling linens, deep cleaning floors, walls, and bathrooms, and wiping down furniture. Communicate comfortably with patients, including managing interactions with difficult patients. Use detergents and germicides, adhering to handling and mixing procedures. Maintain a clean and organized station, cart, closet, and equipment. Report needed equipment repairs to the Supervisor. Log activities throughout the work shift and complete required paperwork at the end of the shift. Collect soiled linen and distribute clean linen. Operate equipment such as mops, computers, supply carts, detergents, brooms, vacuums, telephones, pagers, and hand sweepers. Essential Skills Experience in housekeeping, cleaning, and janitorial work. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as pushing/pulling 65 lbs, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending English. Physical capability to push, pull, kneel, and crouch. Work Environment You will be working throughout the hospital, potentially exposed to hazards such as chemicals, slippery floors, and step ladders. The atmosphere may include dust, odors, bodily fluids, and aerosol sprays. Shifts include 1st shift from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 2nd shift from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with work required every other weekend.
