Description
UM Campus Dining invites applications for Culinary Professional Cook II.
As a Cook, you'll lead by example, managing daily food production using methods like batch cooking and just-in-time preparation to maintain freshness. You'll be responsible for preparing both hot and cold dishes, meeting the needs of each day's menu. In this role, you'll train and supervise student employees, fostering a positive work environment that promotes individual growth and skill development. With a commitment to food safety and ServSafe procedures, you'll ensure that all standards for handling, storage, and production are upheld.
The Lodge Dining Center is a fast-paced environment, especially during peak hours, so this role suits someone who is adaptable and can stay productive under pressure. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you'll contribute to an atmosphere of collaboration, service, and culinary excellence.
What You Bring to the Team:
Proficiency with kitchen equipment and the ability to maintain productivity during peak times
Passion for food service, teamwork and hospitality
Skill in reading and following recipes
Basic knife techniques
Strong knowledge of sanitation, safety, and food handling regulations (free ServSafe certification provided within one year)

The Lodge Dining Center is seeking a dedicated Cook to bring culinary expertise and leadership to our team. This state-of-the-art space serves our campus community of over 10,000 students, faculty, and staff year-round. In addition, it hosts visitors from prospective students to regional groups, offering a vibrant setting for dynamic food service. This position combines hands-on cooking with leadership, creating a dynamic and fulfilling role. The Lodge Dining Center is more than just a dining facility. With seven micro-restaurants, roof decks, and welcoming spaces, it's designed to foster connection among students, faculty, and staff. Here, you'll be part of a historic culinary team that brings diverse flavors and experiences to the University of Montana community.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to work with a variety of kitchen related equipment and remain productive in a work environment that can be intense and demanding during peak production hours
Must be able to work unsupervised for assigned periods of time
Must be able to read and follow standard recipes
Must possess basic knife skills
Must be able to work independently or in a team setting
Must provide excellent guest service
Must have a working knowledge of sanitation and safety rules and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent GED and one (1) year of production cook experience
Additional Information
Position Number: NEW
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), shifts varies upon unit need, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
