General Information & Responsibilities

The Groundskeeper provides maintenance services on campus roads and grounds including wooded areas at the Quad-Cities Campus and satellite sites.

Starting wage is $17.00/hour. Hours are Monday - Wednesday 6:30am-2pm & Thursday 6:30am-1pm (27 hours a week).

Description of Duties

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

  1. Secures general instructions for work assignments from Lead Groundskeeper.
  2. Repairs and maintains all Quad Cities Campus and satellite site roadways, lots, and pathways.
  3. Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, and landscaping.
  4. Performs tree maintenance for maintaining a healthy and safe environment; includes trimming, pruning, removal, etc.
  5. Keeps entrances to College cleaned and picked up.
  6. Performs first level maintenance on all grounds equipment, vehicles, operation logs, and service records.
  7. Performs snow and ice removal and salt spreading using appropriate job related equipment in a safe manner, including during inclement weather.
  8. Installs and repairs sod and plants seeds.
  9. Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing College safety procedures.
  10. Maintains valid drivers license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  11. Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
  12. Attends required trainings as needed.

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES :
  1. Assists with coordinating and moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.
  2. Assists with inventory and orders supplies for the department.
  3. Builds and constructs items as assigned.
  4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  1. Works directly with the Lead Groundskeeper and the Facilities Superintendent.
  2. Works cooperatively with departmental personnel.
  3. Works cooperatively with Maintenance and Custodial departments.
  4. Works cooperatively with all others.
Education & Experience

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  1. High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
  2. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis required.
  3. Previous experience in landscaping/groundskeeping preferred.
  4. Knowledge, aptitude, and/or interest in groundskeeping preferred.
  5. Ability to follow instructions with minimum supervision required.
  6. Ability to read and understand operation manuals relating to equipment used.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively with others required.
  8. Ability to work under difficult conditions including inclement weather, and hazardous conditions.
  9. Valid driver license and satisfactory MVR required.
