SALARY: Range 17

  • Arroyo Grande High School - salary placement from $3,329 to $4,644 monthly

  • Dana/Nipomo - salary placement from $19.23 to $26.80 hourly (due to being less than 8 hours/day)

Salary prorated based on start date and prior experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision to maintain buildings and grounds of assigned facility in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.

QUALIFICATIONS

a. Required:

  1. Graduation from high school or its equivalent.

  2. Must be able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

  3. Ability to prioritize tasks; make minor repairs in building facility; use a variety of power equipment; lift and move heavy supplies and equipment; maintain cooperative relations.

  4. Possess valid California driver's license.

b. Desirable:

  1. One year or more of recent experience in custodial or maintenance work, preferably in a public school.

  2. Knowledge of the safe and effective use of cleaning materials and equipment; methods of floor maintenance, cleaning restrooms, and other areas of school buildings; sterilization and sanitation methods used in custodial work; decision-making skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Clean and maintain school facilities.

  2. Set up and break down facilities such as gymnasium, cafeteria, multi-purpose room, theater, etc.

  3. Make minor repairs and adjustments to building hardware, equipment, furniture and other items and move furniture as needed.

  4. Open and secure facilities as required.

  5. Receive, check, and deliver school supplies.

  6. Order, maintain, and inventory custodial tools, supplies and equipment.

  7. Generate work orders for maintenance repairs.

  8. Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes and reset breakers.

  9. May raise and lower flags; may check and replace heater filters; may be required to assist in grounds maintenance; may check fire extinguishers periodically.

  10. Perform other duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

  2. Ability to ascend and descend steps.

  3. Ability to see and read with or without vision aids.

  4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.

  5. Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.

  6. Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop.

  7. Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

  8. Ability to reach in all directions.

  9. Ability to work off the ground on ladders, scaffolds and/or mechanical lifts.

  10. Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power tools and equipment used.
