Position Summary:
Under theleadership of the Custodian Foreperson or other supervisor designated by theDirector of Building Services , is responsible for the general cleaning, maintenanceand inspection of all spaces including but not limited to offices, labs,hallways, auditoriums, restrooms, building interiors, exterior entrances oroverhangs and steps, gymnasium, cafeteria, classrooms and furniture. Assists in loading and unloading of furniture,equipment and supply deliveries to and from the campus and between campusbuildings. Assists in setting up allspecial events. Maintains a safe, cleanand orderly work area and performs all work in a safe manner.

Essential Functions:
Maintenance/Cleaning: Responsible for thoroughly cleaning all Universityfacilities; including but not limited to: Washing, scrubbing, shampooing, sweeping, dusting and polishing offloors, ceilings, walls, carpeting, tile, light fixtures, woodwork, furnitureand office equipment, entrance exteriors, overhangs, steps, building interiors,cafeteria, living quarters, hallways, gymnasiums, auditoriums, labs,classrooms, restrooms and all other building areas. Collecting and removing all trash andrecyclables and disposing of at proper disposal site. Replenishing supplies in the restrooms (ex. papertowels, toilet paper, soap, etc.). Emptyingall waste receptacles and ashtrays. Moppingup any wet areas that may occur (ex. bad weather, liquid spill, etc.). Assisting, when necessary, in shoveling snowand removing ice from the building exterior or other areas. Operating mechanical cleaning equipment. Following oral and written work instructions. Utilizing a fountain brush with telescopingextension pole handle or tucker brush when required. Operating different types of movable supportmechanisms, ranging from conventional ladders to rolling scaffolds andhydraulic or electric lifts, when required. Turning out all lights and closing and locking all windows if the areasthat they are assigned are unoccupied after the completion of their work. Replacement of any burned out light bulbs andfuses within fixtures with the use of a screwdriver or other appropriate toolsto access bulbs and fuses when needed. Inspectwork areas to ensure safe and clean and to maintain quality control.

Deliveries: Responsible for the unloading and loading ofshipments (ex. Furniture, printed material, equipment, etc.) and delivery ofthose shipments to the proper area. Additionally, responsible for pick up and deliveries of items includingbut not limited to furniture, supplies, and mail. Includes, but not limited to physical taskssuch as lifting, carrying and walking. Will safeguard the confidentiality of universitypersonnel records, files, fiscal data, correspondence and similar confidentialmaterials.

Additional Functions:
-Will adhere to the universitys safety policies andprocedures and maintain the campus and their work areas in a safe, clean,well-groomed and maintained condition. Will have general knowledge of safety precautions and of potentialhazardous conditions. Will report anyunsafe conditions or any damage to equipment or buildings, to their supervisoror manager.
-Set-up for all special events, open house, graduation, etc.
-Performs other related duties as required and wheninstructed.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Minimum of Four(4) years of experience in cleaning methods, materials and equipment or otherrelated experience. Must be able to workwell with others.
-Must possessthe ability to understand and communicate oral and written instructions.
-Ability towork weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime. Ability to respond as an Essential Employee of the State.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual base salary range for the Custodian position is $32,105.00-$ 40,733.00 and the annual base salary range for the Senior Custodian I position is $38,069.00-$50,930.00. NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
