Salary: $16.50 per hour Revision Date: 6/3/25 Effective Date: On or about August 15, 2025 Geel Community Services' Mission: Our mission is to enable people with mental illness and co-occurring disorders to establish and maintain safety and stability in a supportive living environment. Geel's housing and support services combine a coordinated, self-directed approach that is individually tailored, and trauma informed. Our model promotes increased self-sufficiency, self-worth, recovery, and the ability for those we serve to live independently within their communities. Program Description: The Geel Webster Avenue Apartments is a single site, supportive housing residence with 116 apartment units consisting of studio, one bedroom and two-bedroom units. Seventy (70) units will house chronically homeless individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorder (SUD), or co-occurring SMI and SUD referred from the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA). The remaining forty-six (46) units are devoted to Individuals or households who meet the regulatory bodies' income and household size requirements / admission criteria. Essential Responsibility and Role of a Porter: Key Responsibilities Daily responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash and recycling collection, and general upkeep of both interior and exterior areas. This includes routine cleaning of all common areas such as the lobby, hallways, stairwells, elevators, laundry, and bathrooms, as well as immediate response to cleaning needs that arise throughout the day. Assistance with seasonal upkeep (snow removal, salting, sidewalk cleaning) and minor landscaping tasks. Assistance with move-ins/move-outs, deliveries and furniture setups Expected to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision and to communicate with building staff. Weekend coverage is a mandatory part of this position, and flexibility may be required based on building needs or emergencies. Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (related certifications and or trainings are a plus) 2 years of previous experience in building maintenance, property management, or a related field. Experience in supportive housing or working with vulnerable populations is a plus Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods (up to 7 hours per shift), including moving between all 11 floors as needed. Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs regularly, especially when elevators are down or during maintenance emergencies. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs
