Groundskeeper Group III/ Irrigation Technician

Primary Purpose:

Under direct supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, to perform tasks relating to irrigation and sports turf management for the University of the Pacific's grounds and other duties, as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Ability to troubleshoot, repair, or replace irrigation systems i.e., Controllers, wiring, mainlines and laterals, valves, solenoids, decoders, etc.

Oversee software programs related to irrigation management and maintenance.

Responsible for adjusting irrigation schedules for weather conditions and events.

Ability to design and install new irrigation systems while maintaining the existing system.

Identify and diagnose landscape pest problems relating to water management.

Responsible for reporting irrigation pumps usage, ordering and tracking inventory.

Regularly performs irrigation inspections and audits.

Ability to read and understand irrigation blueprint plans.

Perform tasks including irrigation work, refuse removal, tree maintenance, athletic field maintenance, and other tasks.

Able to work alone and also lead work crews on projects.

Must possess good communication skills and be able to work well with others.

Instruct and assist group one and group two employees when needed.

Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required

Five (5) years of work experience directly related to irrigation management.

Preferred Qualifications:

College degree or minimum of 10 years' experience related to landscape maintenance.

A certified irrigation technician or certified water auditor is preferred.Demonstrated five (5) years of experience in maintaining athletic fieldsPossess knowledge to maintain and operate various landscaping equipment

Working knowledge of turf equipment, irrigation systems and maintenance equipment.Knowledge of irrigation electrical systems including two wire systems.Working knowledge of athletic field maintenance.Ability to accurately calibrate irrigation systems.Ability to operate and maintain large equipment including backhoe tractor, tractor attachments, bobcats, large trucks, trenchers, and other landscape related equipment.Working knowledge of pest and diseases in turf.Ability to read and draft emails.Able to read and understand landscape design plans to ensure guideline and standards are met.

Repetitive use of hands. Must be willing to work weekends and odd hours in emergencies. Union membership required.Valid driver's license required. Hiring Range: $30.84 to $32.93 depending on years of experience
