DSHS YVS - Food Service Worker (On-Call)

DSHS is offering a rewarding on-call opportunity for a Food Service Worker at Yakima Valley School in Selah, WA. In this role, you'll contribute to a large-scale food service operation by preparing and serving meals, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting kitchen efficiency. This on-call position offers flexible hours that vary based on facility needs and may require availability for emergencies or unexpected staffing shortages. Because Yakima Valley School operates 24/7, shifts may include weekends or holidays depending on scheduling.
Some of what you'll do:
- Transport food, supplies, and equipment between kitchens, dining areas, storerooms, and refrigerators.
- Assemble salads, sandwiches, and desserts according to established recipes and standards.
- Prepare and serve special modified diets in accordance with dietary requirements.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene.
- Clean kitchen areas by scrubbing surfaces, mopping floors, and emptying trash.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment, including coffee makers, toasters, mixers, and dishwashers.
About Yakima Valley School
Yakima Valley School in Selah, WA, is a certified nursing facility providing individualized care and support for people with developmental disabilities. Residents enjoy a safe, home-like environment with access to medical, therapeutic, and recreational services. The campus features comfortable cottages, scenic grounds, and a variety of programs that promote independence and community involvement. The school also offers respite care and crisis stabilization services for individuals and families in need.
What we are looking for:
- Knowledge of kitchen and dining room operations, personal hygiene, sanitation, and housekeeping practices, including the use of standard kitchen appliances and utensils.
- Ability to learn food preparation and serving routines, including therapeutic dietary orders, recipes, and menus.
- Follow instructions and directions given by supervisors and lead workers effectively.

Additional information
- Evening and night shifts come with an additional shift differential on top of the standard compensation rate.
- Employees who work on-site at this location for at least three days a week may be eligible for an extra 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
