Birmingham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center East is looking for a experienced cook. Must have reliable transportation, and good customer service. Someone who has history in Long Term Care.

General Description

Prepares menu items in accordance with established standards; serves menu items

attractively, and at proper temperature. Implements proper cleaning and food handling

for optimal infection control.

Essential Duties

  1. Performs job duties safely as specified in the physical, sensory, and mental

requirements.

  1. Reads menus, recipes, and reviews the necessary steps in meal preparation with

the Director of Food & Nutrition Services.

  1. Prepares menu items in accordance with established standards.

  2. Determines quantity of food needed in meal preparation.

  3. Follows established recipes.

  4. Uses proper food preparation and handling techniques.

  5. Prepares substitute items to meet resident's individual needs.

  6. Serves meals using portions listed on menu.

  7. Covers, dates, and labels leftovers and stores properly.

  8. Follows established security routine.

  9. Uses proper infection control techniques and protective equipment as needed.

  10. Supervises food service staff in absence of Director of Food & Nutrition Services

or Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services.

  1. Receives and checks deliveries against invoices in absence of Director of Food &

Nutrition Services or Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services.

  1. Cleans and maintains the kitchen Facility in a safe and sanitary manner including

floors, walls, all equipment and utensils.

  1. Performs dish washing of pots, pans and other designated items.

  1. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:

OSHA and safety, including standard precautions and safe work practices,

established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or

correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.

  1. Adheres to:

a. Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations

data.

b. HIPAA regulations

c. Quality Assurance requirements and compliance with regulatory

requirements.

d. Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment

free from sexual harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior.

e. Code of Conduct and Compliance Program when performing job

functions.

  1. Supports and participates in common teamwork:

a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and completes

job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate

judgment.

b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional

situations.

c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents

regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.

d. Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and

guests.

e. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance,

uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work

duties as assigned.

f. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a

positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.

  1. Immediately reports incidents of alleged resident abuse or neglect or alleged

violations of residents' rights to Supervisor or Executive Director.

  1. Maintains current practice standards or changes by participating in educational

opportunities provided by the Facility and outside resources.

Other Duties:

Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but

which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances. Performs

other work duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
