PURPOSE OF ANNOUNCEMENT
To recruit qualified candidates to fill one (1) Building Custodian vacancy for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of General Services, Property Management Division. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall upkeep of a building by performing routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, dusting surfaces, washing windows, and reporting any necessary repairs, while adhering to safety protocols and proper chemical handling procedures; essentially ensuring the building is kept clean and orderly for occupants. Work is performed under general supervision.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:
- Floor care: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing floors
- Bathroom cleaning: sanitizing toilets, sinks, stalls, and restocking supplies
- Trash removal: emptying trash cans and recycling bins
- Dusting: cleaning furniture, surfaces, and fixtures
- Window cleaning: washing interior and exterior windows
- Carpet cleaning: vacuuming and shampooing carpets
- General cleaning: removing spills, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning high-touch areas
- Inventory management: maintaining cleaning supplies and reporting low stock
- Minor maintenance: replacing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, and reporting larger maintenance needs
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
- Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, walk behind floor machines, and cleaning solutions
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
- Ability to lift heavy objects and climb ladders
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance and repair.
