Working under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager and Groundskeeper II to perform a variety of manual labor activities maintaining and caring for the grounds of County properties.

  • Assigns and monitors crews duties. May supervise probationers during weekdays if probationers are available for work.
  • Performs routine ground and sprinkler maintenance in addition to preventive maintenance and minor repair of all groundskeeping equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and caretaker work in cleaning grounds, emptying trash, mowing grass, edging, weeding, and maintaining flowers and shrubs.
  • Operates mowers and light equipment in performing routine duties.
  • Always uses safety gear.
  • Lift and carries heavy objects and/or equipment as needed.

Education:

High school graduate or GED and five years of related working experience with two years of working experience in the operation of commercial lawn equipment.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid Class E Drivers License.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of small tools and equipment used and ability to make small repairs.
  • Knowledge of general landscaping.
  • Knowledge in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Ability to assign duties to probationer work crews and to supervise the probationer work crews.
  • Physical ability to handle, lift, and/or carry heavy objects and equipment as required by the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate small tools and equipment as used in carrying out the duties of the position.
  • Skill in the application of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals used in pest/disease control.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :

  • Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
