Position Description & Details
Bismarck State College seeks a diligent and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Custodian on a part-time, temporary basis. The Custodian will be responsible for performing various custodial duties to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities.
- Cleans, sweeps, scrubs, and mops floors, stairways, halls, and other surfaces. Renovates and renews floor finishes.
- Washes windows, walls, and woodwork.
- Cleans and services lavatories and restrooms; sanitizes and polishes fixtures.
- Moves furniture, supplies, and equipment.
- Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, and related furnishings; clean carpets with vacuum cleaners and/or shampooer.
- Sweeps and cleans walks shovels snow from sidewalks and entryways and keeps outside premises in a clean and orderly condition.
- Collects and disposes of waste and recycling.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs to buildings and equipment.
- Maintains simple records about cleaning activities.
- Set up meeting rooms and equipment for in-house/outside groups.
- May include weekend and evening hours.
- Supports innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and for the college.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Continuously - 34-100% - Stand, walk, use hands dexterously, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, or lift to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally - 1-33% - Sit, taste, or smell, or lift 75 pounds to more than 100 pounds.
HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work may include lifting 50 pounds or more and exposure to hazards, which could result in physical injury.
- Must observe established safety practices and procedures in working with chemicals, materials, and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma or GED, OR one year of custodial experience.
- Ability to perform general cleaning work (i.e., restrooms, vacuum, mop, dust, etc.).
- Ability to follow communicated instructions and to work independently after instructions.
- Must have a current valid driver's license.
