GENERAL SCOPE Under the direction of a designated supervisor, works a night shift beginning between 1:30 and 4:00 PM, except day shifts when school is not in session, and performsvarious custodial duties as follows:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Cleans and disinfects classrooms, restrooms, offices and related facilities
Sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes, and vacuums floors
Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork
Empties and cleans waste receptacles
Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning & polishing machines, scrubbers
Washes walls, windows and display cases and other glass in the building
Polishes metal work
Takes care of equipment and materials
Moves and arranges furniture and equipment and sets up auditorium or classrooms for special event meetings
Makes minor non-technical repairs such as adjusting shades and blinds, desks and other furniture
Makes minor technical repairs such as repairing lights
Cleans venetian blinds
Strips and refinishes floors
Sands and refinishes desks and furniture
Cleans grounds and courts of buildings, erasable boards, trays and erasers, andlight fixtures and replaces burned-out lights
Checks and fills towel, toilet paper and soap dispensers
Raises and lowers flags
Sets security system in assigned areas & secures buildings
Performs routine gardening duties as directed
During school vacation periods may work as helper to skilled worker in generalbuildings and grounds maintenance
Performs other related duties as required
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE OF:
Proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work androutine maintenance.
Requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderlycondition.
Appropriate safety and security precautions and procedures.
Modern cleaning methods, including basic methods of cleaning and preservingfloors, erasable boards, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
ABILITY TO:
Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to predeterminedstandards
Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipmentand supplies used in custodial work
Use hazardous materials in a safe way according to established safetyprocedures
Maintain tools and equipment assigned in clean working order and provideproper security
Perform minor non-technical repairs? Observe and report the need for maintenance and repair
Perform heavy physical labor
Understand and follow oral and written directions
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Meet schedules and timelines
Communicate effectively with others
Inspect and assure the security of facilities during assigned shift
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Lift up to 50 lbs., several times daily in moving furniture, emptying trash and handling cleaning supplies
Operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment.
Keep basic work records and make reports. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Previous experience in custodial and/or gardening work is desirable
Evidence of ability to read procedures and instructions and learn routine dutiesrapidly must be demonstrated at the time of application
Training or experience in other building trades, such as carpentry, painting,electrical, plumbing and general building maintenance is also desirable
EDUCATION
Equivalent of high school graduation, evidence of the ability to communicate effectivelyin the English language, both orally and in writing.
