Groundskeeper

The Facility Groundskeeper(s) are responsible for a variety of grounds maintenance and other related responsibilities that are performed on behalf of the medical center. Responsibilities may include when needed, external courier support, designated transportation duties, equipment & office relocations, and traffic flagging.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Safety:
- Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster procedures, as outlined in the fire safety policy, knows personal role in the event of a fire while on duty.
- Provides a safe environment; demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention in avoiding unsafe conditions such as but not limited to wet flooring, blocked egress areas etc.
- Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis.
- Maintains universal precautions and infection prevention techniques. Exceeds: Acquires proper training for spill kits in relationship to items transported.
- Carries out duties in a safe professional manner, with focus on customer service as a high priority. Exceeds: No substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff & visitors.
- Uses proper lifting techniques during work tasks to prevent lifting injuries.
- Anticipates potential and actual environmental safety hazards and take appropriate actions.
- When equipment is need of repair and unsafe to use, properly locks and tags out for nor use and reports broken or tagged out equipment to Facility Manager.
Grounds, Transportation, Maintenance:
- Maintains lawn areas utilizing power and hand tools
- Maintains gardens, flower beds, walks and drives.
- Performs basic landscaping duties including seeding, transplanting, and weeding. Exceeds: participates in creating one new landscaping project.
- Removes snow or ice using manual or power equipment. Exceeds: Available for all snow emergencies when not on paid time off.
- Assures routine maintenance and repairs are completed for medical center vehicles and equipment as assigned.
- Keeps grounds vehicles and equipment clean, safe, and presentable at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Facilities Support:
- Maintains tools and equipment.
- Moves furniture and other designated pieces of equipment.
- Removes refuse and yard trimmings from grounds, transporting to an approved refuse site. Exceeds: Keeps storage areas designated for grounds waste, pallet storage, and other materials in an orderly fashion.
- May assist other members of the department performing required duties.
- Keeps shop and grounds areas clean and safe. Exceeds: Removes excess salt around entrances after winter.
- Cleans hallways, shops, and staircases in the Maintenance building as needed.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education - High School Diploma / GED
- Licensure - A clean valid NYS Driver's license.
- Experience - Able to drive vehicle in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The courier is responsible for loading and unloading items into the vehicle which include but not limited to boxes, equipment, supplies, and food. Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time while driving.

- This position will work from 6am to 2pm, Nights and weekends as needed.
Pay Range Disclosure:
- $16.83 to $24.04 per hour
