Job DetailsItalian Village Restaurants is hiring a Front of House Manager for Sotto, a restaurant that is part of a 3-unit historic, family-owned and operated restaurant group.
The Front of House Manager will oversee the restaurant managing both the front of house operations and administrative work. They will be responsible for managing the floor and executing daily service, overseeing scheduling, ordering, and inventory, attending weekly meetings with manager teams, sustaining our culture, living our values, coaching, and developing the team, and reaching our goals. They will work most closely with the management and front of house teams on a daily basis.
Ideal Candidate will be:
- A strong people leader
- Experienced in Italian/Italian-American cuisine
- Experienced in high volume restaurants (especially in theatre district)
- Technically savvy enough to become proficient with key systems (Microsoft 365, Toast POS, MarginEdge, 7shifts, Resy)
- Excited for a role with lots of responsibility and opportunity to improve a historic restaurant
- Illinois Food Manager Certified / ServSafe Manager Certified
- Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education & Training (BASSET) Certified
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Dining Room Operations:
- Oversee daily dining room operations.
- Monitor and maintain any set standards for hospitality, food quality, and leadership.
- Ensure repair and maintenance needs are addressed in both front and back of house (through Chef de Cuisine in BOH and with the help of full-time Building Engineer).
- Understand and follow proper food allergy/food restrictions procedure.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders: guests, vendors, employees, managers, and ownership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Team Leadership:
- Manage all front of house staff, including delegating appropriately, leading shift meetings, creating processes, and adjusting schedules to meet service needs.
- develop the front of house team. Including ad-hoc 1:1 coaching and, when necessary, disciplinary action up to and including employment termination.
- Build and maintain positive culture, relationships, and collaboration within the full restaurant team.
- Oversee staff training and development. Ensure strong food and beverage knowledge, strong service quality, and strong food quality.
- Serve as a role model, lead by example, and demonstrate our Values.
Administrative
- Balance and maintain security of all cash banks.
- Monitor and ensure the restaurant and the teams compliance with all company and restaurant policies and procedures as well as all legal and regulatory requirements (including but not limited to safety and sanitation regulations, alcohol management, and all federal/state/local labor laws) and represent the restaurant and company in
- Manage costs, drive sales, and grow the business to achieve our financial goals.
- Ensure all invoices are submitted to back office in a timely manner and financials are accurate for the period.
- Conduct short, daily meetings with management team to plan the day.
- Oversee the schedule for all hourly and management roles. Ensure proper staffing for productivity and high standards of quality.
Collaboration with Kitchen leadership:
- Ensure proper food storage, including temperature controls, cleanliness, and labeling.
- Collaborate with Chef team to develop culinary menus (specials, seasonal menu changes, special events or festivals).
- Oversee purchasing and receiving. Ensure smart purchasing and proper, organized receiving.
- Oversee monthly inventory of all products. Ensure accurate, timely inventories taken.
General Manager will be scheduled about 40-50 hours weekly. Your schedule is to be posted in the scheduling system. Our expectation is you will work (5) days a week, 8-10 hour evening shifts (2pm/3pm-10pm/11pm) Tuesday through Saturday. Admin work is expected to be completed during scheduled time and while in the building, unless you prefer otherwise.
Qualifications (Required):
- Ability to get along with others - pleasant personality and neat, clean appearance.
- At least 18 years of age and legally allowed to work in the United States.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions well and accept constructive feedback on job performance.
- Ability to communicate scheduling needs, equipment issues, and any other concerns with the Chef and/or Manager on Duty.
- Ability to work nights and weekends regularly
- Ability to work flexible and irregular hours
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds constantly, 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally while moving up and down stairs.
- Ability to work standing on your feet for around 10 hours daily.
- Ability to perform tasks in a timely and efficient manner with a focus on quality.
- Ability to perform more than one task at a time and prioritize.
- Ability to move and work fast, but also be thoughtful and gentle as to not break plate and glassware.
- Ability to go up and down up to 3 flights of stairs as needed to perform tasks.
- Ability to reach up to 6 feet overhead (can use crate) or bend over and stoop to the ground while cleaning.
- Ability to work in spaces with slick, often wet floors in a careful manner.
- Ability to work in a confined, crowded, fast-moving space with high noise and light levels.
Compensation
Salary Range: 60-65/year or based on experience
