Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to maintain the integrity of the landscape, safety of facilities, and equipment located at the city parks.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class, as necessary.

  • Performs mowing, edging, blowing, trimming, and weed eating of the parks.

  • Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment.

  • Cleans Park bathrooms.

  • Trims, removes, and provides care for trees, bushes, and ornamental plants.

  • Removes litter from playground areas, empties trash receptacles, loads, and unloads materials, supplies, equipment, and other debris from City Parks.

  • Inspects and maintains playground equipment and spray park, checks, and maintains chlorine levels, performs equipment safety inspections.

  • Provides direction to less experienced personnel.

  • Reports any safety hazards to the supervisor.

  • Meets with vendors and contractors and oversees work being completed based on specifications at City Parks.

  • Operates a city vehicle in the performance of duties.

  • Checks and maintains the chlorine levels in the spray park.

  • Responds to and participates in emergency calls.

  • Assists with preparing for special City events at City Center Park.

  • Performs minor carpentry, plumbing and other repairs at City parks and City Hall.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School graduation or GED equivalent.

  • No experience required.

  • Physical Demands:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to

  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
