Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To provide superior service to our banquet event guests and members in a friendly but professional and unpretentious manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS

Responsibility to Ownership/Management:

  • Each associate is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management which the associate is capable of performing.
  • Effectively communicate with other servers, supervisors, management and the culinary team.
  • Performs posted side work duties throughout shift or as requested by management.
  • Is deliberate with all equipment related to the set up and implementation of banquet service.
  • Is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, inter-departmental meetings, shift line-ups and incentive programs.
  • Understands alcohol consumption awareness and the effects of alcohol.

Responsibility to Members/Guests:

  • Provide prompt, courteous and efficient food & beverage service for the guests and members in our banquet and event spaces.
  • Handles all set-up, food and beverage service, and breakdown of each assigned function.
  • Responsible for reading and following the instructions in the Banquet Event Order (BEO).
  • Ensures the flow and proper execution of all banquet functions on a particular station from the beginning to end.
  • Sets all tables correctly and ensures that stations are stocked and ready for service at least 15 mins before the start of the function.
  • Must be “attitude free” and be willing to provide all necessary professional courtesies; as well as having an innate understanding of the importance of finding many reasons to say “yes” before saying “no”.
  • Provides a consistently high standards of service in areas such as meeting set-ups, turnovers, registration areas and all meal functions related to the group.
  • Able to effectively multi-task and meet, greet and serve a substantial number of guests and members simultaneously while monitoring service levels.
  • Must be fully accountable for all elements of guest service in their section.
  • Must always use a sincere smile and appropriate gestures to convey feelings of warmth, openness and a genuine desire to please.
  • Must be self-motivated and know to take initiative with the intent to improve and positively impact guest related situations.
  • Must be able to effectively use and maintain eye contact with guests.
  • Must be familiar with commonly accepted standards of etiquette and decorum relating to guest interaction.
  • Has a professional attitude that conveys cooperation, willingness to learn and a desire to excel and contribute to guest satisfaction.
  • Must be prepared to yield the right of way to guests. All guest interaction must be positive and professional.
  • Effectively handle customer concerns.
  • Has knowledge of principles for providing customer and guest needs, and observes quality service standards at all times.
  • Body language must suggest an attentive and energetic orientation.
  • Be familiar with all property amenities and other outlets.
  • Must be able to “read” guests and determine whether they are unhappy, impatient etc.
  • Has skill in approaching all encounters with guests, members and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains proper behavior and appearance, including a “clean and pressed” uniform.

Responsibility to Associates:

  • Effectively communicate with other servers, management and the culinary team.
  • Must be self-motivated and know to take initiative with the intent to improve and positively impact team member related situations.
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with other team members.
  • Provides quick and attentive assistance to any mishap in the event room.
  • Assist other servers, as needed.
  • Has skill in approaching encounters with guests, members and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

General Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for the completion of all side work that is assigned by the captain or banquet manager.
  • Responsible for clearing all tables and removing all linen at the end of the function.
  • Able to observe beverage pour standards and serve products accurately and neatly.
  • Must possess a reliable degree of physical dexterity when transporting food and restaurant equipment.
  • Report any deficiencies in equipment or level of supplies to the Banquet Manager or Assistant Banquet Manager.
  • Must be effective at all forms of non-verbal communication; including the proper use of hand gestures.
  • Has excellent command of the English language in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand the banquet event orders.
  • Responsible for delivery of food (hot and cold boxes) to event site. Must inspect all food to ensure food stated on the banquet event order is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for returning all food and supplies from the event site to Banquet Storage areas and Banquet Kitchen.
  • Maintain a clean working environment to include work spaces, queens, linens and trash removal.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a resort, hotel, or high-pace restaurant setting as a server, waiter or waitress, preferred. High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

Able to multi-task and be flexible in a face paced, quickly changing environment. Able to work well with others and communicate clearly with front of house, culinary and conference services/catering teams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess a reliable degree of physical dexterity when assembling and transporting food and restaurant equipment. Must be physically able to stand and walk for long periods of time, reach, bend, kneel and/or stoop and lift items weighing in excess of 45 pounds.

Certifications/Licenses

Previous Safe Serve Certification and Alcohol Awareness, preferred.
