PAY & BENEFITS: Pay for Groundskeeper begins at $41,556.17 and is based upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description:
This classification performs various grounds keeping activities and works with personnel regarding maintenance of grounds, equipment and facilities within Parks and Recreation department. Duties and responsibilities include mowing areas, picking up debris in facility areas, refurbishes flower and shrub beds; simple plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work; providing supervision and guidance during performance of duties. Under general supervision, reports to Parks Facility Manager. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs and sometimes supervises mowing duties of areas, grassed areas around buildings and other areas; weeds and trim areas; picks up debris such as paper, bottles, cups and limbs in making areas more attractive; sods and seeds grass; top dresses designated areas; does hand and other watering; spreads fertilizer; trims trees.
- Performs landscaping and related work such as refurbishing flower and shrub beds, trimming and shaping hedges and other vegetation; applies insecticides, plant food and other chemicals to plants and vegetation.
- Performs mowing of baseball, football, and soccer fields; picnic areas.
- Preps athletic fields by dragging infields, lining fields, and various other activities.
- Cleans bathrooms and other facilities; does simple plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting in the maintenance and repair of facilities.
- Keeps routine records and makes simple reports.
- Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State, and City regulations
- Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to Manager.
- Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment. Report any malfunctioning equipment to Manager.
- Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer's perception of town facility.
- Helps maintain the cleanliness of machines, work area and facility. Reports incidents, or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager.
- Assists weekend Managers/Supervisors by supervising grounds crew in assigned tasks as needed.
- Any other duties as assigned by Manager.
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) or Two (2) years of experience in facilities, equipment, and commercial grounds maintenance.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License.
Must be able to survey conditions of park facilities and be able to form appropriate plans/actions to maintain or improve such conditions as needed. Must have a working knowledge of acceptable condition standards as stipulated by Parks Facility Manager.
Human Interaction:
Supervisory duties require the ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and other personnel. Must be able to work both independently, and in a group setting. In general, must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Material Utilization:
Personal safety equipment, greens mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, chemical sprayers, service truck, radio, cell phone, chain saw, various hand tools, hedge trimmers, weed-eater, tractor, edger, sod cutter, pressure washer, other grounds equipment; various office machines including computers.
Verbal Aptitude:
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Mathematical Aptitude: Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, etc.) required.
Functional Reasoning:
Must be able to work on multiple tasks concurrently. Requires excellent attention to detail, as well as the ability to assess situations and make appropriate decisions in regards to time/personnel management, prioritizing tasks, as well as coordinating efforts with superiors.
Situational Reasoning:
Must have a sound knowledge of the methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used in grounds work as done in golf course facilities. Must have basic mechanical aptitude to both maintain and utilize equipment necessary for performance of job.
