Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Dietetics in Nutritional Services, this position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dining areas, and restrooms to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for food preparation and service.
Key responsibilities include:
Performing daily cleaning and disinfecting of restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors
Restocking restroom supplies and replacing trash can liners
Vacuuming carpets and mats, spot-cleaning as needed, and sweeping and mopping all hard-surface floors using color-coded mops and approved procedures
Rotating duties such as dusting, cleaning windows and walls, sweeping building entrances, polishing surfaces, and assisting with dining room setup
The position requires strict adherence to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines.

Working Conditions
The Kitchen Custodian works in a fast-paced kitchen with occasional outdoor tasks like trash disposal. The role involves heat, humidity, and cleaning chemicals, requiring PPE. Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending and reaching. The custodian maintains a clean workspace and interacts professionally with staff and students.
