Position Overview

As Lead Prep Cook at Postcard, youll be responsible for preparing ingredients, assembling dishes, and ensuring everything runs smoothly in the kitchen. Your role will include managing food orders from suppliers, maintaining food safety standards, and minimizing waste. You will also guide and support the team, making sure the kitchen operates efficiently and consistently. This role is perfect for someone with a strong foundation in food prep who also enjoys the challenge of supporting a small, collaborative team.

What Youll Do

  • Prepare ingredients for service, including washing, chopping, slicing, and assembling according to standardized recipes and food safety protocols.
  • Manage food ordering and inventory, maintaining accurate records, receiving deliveries, and ensuring proper rotation and storage of products per local health regulations.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness and compliance with food safety standards, including daily sanitization, temperature checks, and adherence to FDA Food Code and local health department guidelines.
  • Train, mentor, and guide kitchen staff on proper prep techniques, portioning, sanitation, and execution to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Monitor and minimize food waste through proper storage, prep forecasting, and efficient kitchen practices, documenting waste as needed.
  • Lead and support the kitchen team during peak service periods, ensuring clear communication and smooth coordination with front-of-house staff.
  • Promote and uphold a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment, supporting team morale and adhering to workplace conduct and anti-harassment policies.
  • Fulfill physical requirements of the role, including standing for extended periods, and participating in opening/closing procedures and light janitorial tasks as needed.

What Were Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in food prep or kitchen roles (cafes or independent restaurants preferred)
  • A solid understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and inventory management
  • Experience with ordering food from suppliers and managing inventory
  • A team-oriented mindset and strong leadership skills
  • Attention to detail, with a focus on quality and timing
  • A positive attitude and willingness to support the team in all areas of service
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Food Handler Certification (required)
