Catering Service Staff

Occupational Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve prepared food in Accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Catering and Special Events Manager and/or Catering and Special Events Coordinator. Responsibilities include but not limited to hot food serving, including accompaniment and garnishes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensures the dining experience is enjoyable through cheerful behavior and carefully following established procedures for food handling, plate presentation and service.

2. Follows established style and order of service while serving in any of the Banquet rooms.

3. Performs assigned before and after side work tasks.

4. Possesses the ability to follow instructions, work well with others and maintain a good report with guests and fellow employees.

5. General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.

6. Has ability to cope with some problems. Confers with Catering and Special Events Coordinator regarding unusual problems.

7. Follows rules concerning personal appearance and work performance.

8. Responsible for hot/cold food handling, including accompaniments and garnishes.

9. Keep all work areas clean and organized, not allowing clutter in service area.

10. Will be available to work days/night, weekends and holidays.

11. Proper beverage service.

12. Timely setting of tables for meal service.

13. Clears all areas of service including tables, chairs, work area and equipment used in service area.

14. Follows safety and sanitation rules and practices.

15. Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures and assists with evacuation of Banquet Area to a safe location in event of fire or other emergency.

16. Performs other duties as assigned.

17. Cooperates with all staff members.

18. Must take necessary precautions and follow correct procedures for lifting and bending.

19. Able to work well independently given proper direction.

20. Provides clean, safe and neat environment for all.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a minimum of sixteen years of age. Capable of lifting, carrying and balancing a 10- to 15 pound tray; frequent stooping and bending; lifting, pushing , pulling and moving a minimum of 50 pound cart; and maneuvering independently and safely around work area. Capable of standing and walking for three to eight hour shifts. Ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that position requirements can fully be met. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher and to manipulate kitchen equipment, including can opener, and knives. The ability to wipe the complete surface of a table.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Good Communication skills. Sound, mental and physical health. Ability to get along with others, to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially senior adults.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Subject to moderate physical stress with food service. Performance of job tasks will involve exposure to cleaning chemicals which require precautions.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Prior Banquet Service experience is very helpful but not required.

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Catering and Special Events Manager and/or Catering and Special Events Coordinator.
