POSITION PURPOSE

This entry level, full-time custodian is to perform any combination of cleaning duties to maintain the University in a clean, safe and orderly manner by hand or mechanical cleaning methods. Duties may include but are not limited to restocking supplies, cleaning rooms, walls, hallways, restrooms, stairways, collecting trash and vacuuming. To effectively and efficiently maintain all building areas interior and exterior to the highest standards of cleanliness.

We are currently looking for someone who could work a Monday-Friday schedule with a flexible start and end time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as, sidewalks and entryways as required.
  • Assists in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.
  • Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, showers, locker rooms, stairways and all other areas so that health standards are met.
  • Empty trash containers and reline if necessary including exterior cans and cigarette containers.
  • Replenish rest room supplies.
  • Keep closet stocked, clean and tidy.
  • Dust furniture and equipment.
  • Sweep, mop and scrub floors using brooms and mops.
  • Clean rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture by using vacuum cleaners.
  • Wash windows, walls, ceilings and woodwork and wax or polish as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager of housekeeping or team lead.

SPECIALIZE KNOW-HOW & SKILLS

  • Ability to complete the following training as required but not limited to: hazardous communication, fall arrest, MSDS, asbestos identification, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, respirator training.
  • Ability to mentor fellow staff to enhance their performance, development and productivity.
  • Ability to work in fast paced, rapidly changing environment and a STRONG work ethic and desire to learn.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to seventy (70) pounds.
  • May be required to work in locations that involve hazardous environments requiring protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations and some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust and noise.
  • May be required to work on ladders and in adverse weather conditions.

REQUIRED MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Requires a working knowledge of cleaning methods.
  • Safe usage and storage of all chemicals.
  • Proper usage of PPE.
