The Hendersonville Parks Department is seeking applicants for 1 Full Time Parks Maintenance Worker position. The hours of the position will be Wednesday-Sunday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for operating equipment and performing manual labor in support of the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates a variety of equipment in the maintenance of park facilities, including lawnmowers, tractors, and dump trucks
  • Drags, lines, and prepares the surface of athletic fields; aerates and overseeds athletic fields; constructs pitching mounds on baseball fields; constructs boat docks and boat ramps; constructs prefabricated buildings and shelters; maintains volleyball courts and in-line hockey field
  • Cleans restrooms, paints restrooms, shelters, and park structures
  • Repairs and maintains playground equipment; repairs fences; installs signs
  • Builds concrete forms; pour concrete; digs holes and trenches; shovels materials
  • Assists with the set up and clean-up of special events; assists with the seasonal preparation of equipment and facilities
  • Operates a lawnmower and weed eater
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods and practices
  • Knowledge of baseball, softball, soccer, and football field markings
  • Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repair, and electrical procedures
  • Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals
  • Skill in operating a tractor, push-mower and various hand tools
  • Skill in following instructions
  • Skill in oral and written communication

SCOPE AND EFFECT

The purpose of this position is to perform basic maintenance and custodial duties. Successful performance helps ensure safe and comfortable parks and recreation facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is performed while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee must lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed indoors and outdoors, where the employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position reports directly to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor or Assistant Maintenance Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for 1-2 years
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Tennessee for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years in a Parks position
  • Experience working in athletic fields, mowing, and/or operating small equipment
