The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seekinga Cook to join our team! This is a full-time position with an 8-hour shift, five days a week, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

What you'll do

As part of the WRC team, you'll play a crucial role in our mission by providing essential food service support to individuals at our facility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, modify texture of, portion, label, serve, deliver, and pick up food and supplies.
  • Set up and tear down work areas and service areas, working a variety of positions and completing specific tasks assigned for each position.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards through proper food handling.
  • Operate a variety of commercial food service equipment, including dish machines, pot and pan machine, food processors, blenders, steam tables, can openers, scales, garbage disposals, mixers, and a variety of cooking equipment.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning assignments, including trash removal, dishwashing, general sanitation, sweeping, and mopping.
  • Train and direct the work of assigned people, including co-workers, individuals living at WRC, and students of Woodward Academy.

Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of food preparation and service, including the principles of food sanitation.
  • Knowledge of health hazards in food service and the necessary precautionary measures.
  • Ability to perform and complete a variety of manual food service tasks.
  • Display high standards of ethical conduct, honesty, and integrity.
  • Works and communicates with internal and external clients and customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner.
  • Committed to quality service, displaying a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
  • Works with minimal supervision and demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.
