Requires familiarity with basic trade practices in landscape maintenance and landscaping and the ability to operate various pieces of equipment and vehicles. Work is assigned, reviewed by inspection, and performed under the direction of a supervisor. May assist Foreman in supervising and training Maintenance Worker I's. Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Trims and prunes tree limbs and roots. Mows turf, rakes, trims hedges, pulls weeds, and lays sod. Fertilizes, prunes and pots plants. Installs plants and trees. Loads, unloads and moves equipment, supplies, materials and tools. Moves and arranges furniture for City functions. Digs and backfills trenches, ditches, foundations, holes for planting, etc. Assists workers of higher classifications in installing and maintaining sprinkler systems and landscaping. Uses shovels, rakes, weed eaters, gas hedge shears, gas powered blowers, hand sprayers, lawn edger's, tillers, air-spade, hydraulic lifts and other related equipment. Operates riding mower, drives a 3 quarter ton pick- up truck and dump truck. Maintains equipment and makes minor repairs. Assists foremen in the supervision and training of Maintenance Worker I's and temporary workers. May be required to respond to non-routine situations during hurricane season or other emergency conditions. Performs other related tasks as required. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum six (6) months experience in landscape maintenance or installation. Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the High School Diploma. Additional Information The City of Coral Gables is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Drug Free Workplace. HOLIDAYS: 15 days including 3 floating days. SICK LEAVE: 96 hours annually. ANNUAL LEAVE: 80 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 188 hours after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 work days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City's Personnel Rules & Regulations. MEDICAL INSURANCE: Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium. DENTAL INSURANCE: Available to all employees through payroll deduction. LIFE INSURANCE : Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary, fully paid by the City (up to $200,000). LEGAL SERVICES: Legal Service plan available at a cost to employees through payroll deductions. DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are given the option to defer a portion of their pre-tax salary into the 457 Deferred Compensation Program. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: $2000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved college coursework. SAFETY GLASSES: Required safety glasses are provided every 2 years. RECREATIONAL USE: Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below: Venetian Pool - No charge for daily admission.
