Maintenance Worker I - Aquatic Center

The Maintenance Worker I will perform technical, mechanical and related administrative coordination of the Woodland Aquatic Center amenities. This position will be responsible for cleanliness and functionally of the building including but not limited to deep cleaning of bathrooms, locker rooms, windows and floors. This position will ensure continuous safe conditions, and compliance with local, state and federal standards. Work involves making decisions that affect health conditions of the public. The Maintenance Worker I will work closely with others in coordinating maintenance and projects, facilitating communication and providing technical guidance. Shifts may range from early morning to evening hours, weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for all maintenance related to the aquatic center.
2. Responsible for general appearance of the building, including glass, shower, floors, and bathrooms.
3. Records aquatic operation statistics on log sheets as it relates to operations, inspects motors, bearings, pumps, swimming pool heating and cooling systems, fans, plumbing and other related mechanical functions of aquatic operations. Performs repairs as needed to all aquatics equipment. Uses meters and gauges to determine performance of equipment; performs preventative maintenance and repairs.
4. Operates and inspects all aquatic physical plant operations. Responsible for all phases of operations and records and provides technical information in an organized fashion.
5. Coordinates and establishes preventative maintenance program for the Woodland Aquatic Center including pool equipment, locker rooms, and building furniture.
6. Draws samples of water for tests and analysis; checks and adjusts chemical filters and other related equipment. Makes chemical adjustments to water chemistry as appropriate.
7. Conducts visual inspections of working apparatus, physical grounds, and building appearance.
8. Prepares reports and records necessary for effective management control, efficiency and safety of water quality; prepares and submits various operational reports to other staff and other appropriate regulating agencies.
9. Works closely with other city staff, outside vendors such as janitorial supply companies, fire, electrical, HVAC, engineering, material companies and state and county agencies.
10. Responsible for all equipment related to the aquatic center.
11. Serves as a technical advisor on County and State Health Department regulations.
12. Participates in development of the operating and capital improvement budget. Prepares costs for pool operation and maintenance.
13. Maintains pool plans, technical specifications and other maintenance on construction history.
14. Serves as liaison between pool maintenance and aquatics programming staff.
15. Orders supplies, conducts inventories and maintains purchase records.
16. Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work process and work cooperatively to provide quality seamless customer service.
17. Act as a generalist within the department. This includes but is not limited to:
a. Assisting staff with departmental special functions;
b. Provide patrons with information about programs and services provided by the department.
18. Responds to off duty hours for emergencies.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager and/or Assistant Aquatics Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
1. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and operating procedures.
2. Experience of cleaning buildings, labor experience in the field of building or facility maintenance preferred.
3. Must be available for emergency calls as problems emerge; may include evenings, early morning, weekends and holidays.
4. High School Diploma or GED.
5. Must obtain and maintain Aquatics Facility Operator Certification or Certified Pool Operator within 6 months of employment.
6. Valid State of Colorado drivers license with a safe driving record.
7. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of aquatic equipment.
2. Knowledge of water treatment processes and of the operation, repair and maintenance of all equipment.
3. Knowledge of daily janitorial duties and daily maintenance.
4. Ability to accurately record and maintain records relating to inspection and maintenance activities.
5. Ability to read and understand chemical labels, plans of mechanical distribution systems, treatment plants and schematics.
6. Ability to react quickly to serious problems and to resolve them based upon experience and technical knowledge.
7. Ability to verbally and effectively communicate with City staff, general public and outside vendors.
8. Ability to multiple task, handle stressful situations and make sound decisions on a daily basis.
9. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
10. Ability to establish effective working relationships.
11. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
12. Ability to meet the Physical Demands and willingness to function in the work environment as listed.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, motor vehicle, telephone, printer, calculator, electrical and HVAC systems, and pool filters and pumps.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Maintenance staff must be able to move throughout the building, up and down ladders, through small spaces. Employee must be able to move furniture to clean around. Must have knowledge of how to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum, mops, brooms and other cleaning equipment. Knowledge of basic hand power tools. Being proficient and taking pride in work is necessary.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is in and around water and slippery surfaces with exposure to noise, fumes and hazardous chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the environment is often noisy and loud.
