This Vacancy is located in the Custodial Services Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Hospital System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.

May act as a lead custodian and perform advanced custodial tasks required to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
50% Responsible for routine custodian services duties that include:
- Dust walls, furniture appliances and any surface capable of maintaining debris and dust, sweep/dust, wet mop., strip, wax, and buff floors in residences that house clients and in ancillary environments that present a high risk of client aggression and violence directed towards staff in which the custodian has limited mobility, communication, and response capability affecting work rate, work conditions, and personal safety of staff
- Clean and disinfect all restrooms, shower areas, and laundry equipment daily and as needed
- Maintains strict resource accountability using stringent security measures not normally required in less restrictive environment for the procurement, maintenance, and distribution of consumable goods and disposables such as paper towels, toilet tissue, and cleaning supplies
- Performs custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness of the exteriors of the buildings, adjacent grounds, and areas that fall under the operational control of ownership of their department.
- Clean and decontaminate areas where bodily fluids are present. Ensure that bio-hazardous wastes are properly disposed of. Maintain a safe environment for the different age clients we serve by correcting and reporting all safety hazards to supervisor.
- Procures, handles, stores, and distributes clean linen, soiled linen, and bath items daily and coordinates the laundry and laundering patients clothes as directed
40% serves as lead custodian over entry level custodians and less experienced Custodian 2s. Handles blood borne pathogens waste spills and special cleaning utilizing specialized training (Blood borne Pathogen (BBP)/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Understanding Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Hazardous Chemicals: SDS Self-Paced). Coordinates and follows up on special activities to ensure facilities are clean, functional, and set up properly. Serves as lead worker and guide for special floor maintenance projects such as stripping, waxing, and polishing flooring systems, and shampooing of carpet flooring systems and upholstered furniture, etc.
5% Identify resolve, and/or report violations of regulatory standards within a restrictive environment and take measures to report and safeguard clients, staff and visitors from risk associated with violations
5% Trains in non-violent crisis intervention to avoid, avert, and properly respond to clients in crisis situations and assists security staff in procedures to prevent and respond to emergent conditions involving clients.
Attends all mandatory classes, meetings, and training sessions that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility. Responds to emergency calls and duty.
Maintains current and unencumbered motor vehicle license.
Performs any related duties necessary for the smooth operation of the Custodial Services Department and ELMHS
Adheres to all applicable regulatory agency requirements, LDH/OBH, Civil Service Rules, regulations, and procedures
Position-Specific Details:Salary is negotiable based on experience.
ELMHS offers an extra facility longevity specialty for this position starting at 1.00 per/hr worked.
