JOB TITLE: Cashier

DEPARTMENT: Nutrition Services

REPORTS TO: Nutrition Services Director

JOB SUMMARY

Accountable for cash register operation and handling cash. Responsible for maintaining all charges in the appropriate cost center. Provides high quality customer service, including efficient sales practice and proper food sanitation . Assist in production and service of daily café menu items.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • PREFERRED: Six (6) months previous experience working with the public in a customer service role. Extensive cashier experience, experience with catering, fast food service, any prep work or any food handling experience. Experience working in kitchens of facilities or institutions that provide meals to large groups of people daily.

EXPERIENCE

  • General office standards of dress and behavior.
  • Basic math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals .

SKILLS

  • Ability to write notes and brief instructions using correct spelling and grammar.
  • Deliver friendly and efficient customer service.
  • Speak clearly and present information orally.
  • Ability to speak, read, understand, and write English.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn to operate equipment and perform a variety of repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to follow time schedules for meal preparations and serving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates cash register with an accuracy of 99.85% (plus or minus).
  • Sets up appropriate cashier bank.
  • Documents cash received and charges made.
  • Identifies customer needs and refers to appropriate department for follow-up when necessary.
  • Collects data for cash control.
  • Stocking refrigerators with beverages, condiments, grab and go items, etc.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, polishing general work areas, this includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and throwing trash.
  • Prepare and gather items needed for meal service.
  • Provides exceptional service to all guests.
  • Ability to take initiative and stay busy supporting the operations during downtimes with cleaning, prepping, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  • Attends department meetings and in-services.
