THE POSITIONThe Lowell School District seeks an outstanding, highly qualified candidate to perfom the custodial duties in our buildings and grounds. This position will also allow for some time to filled as a van driver as necessary.
POSITION SUMMARYThe employee selected will join the MOT Department to do custodial work and van driving in any combination for 6 hours per day. The emphasis in this job will be custodial work but that can often shift to van driving depending on the needs of the department. Often this will include varied work sites and duties dependent on the needs of the district each day. This position could include additional days and hours as needed by the district. Salary is based on the contracted salary schedule for classified employees.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors.Vacuuming and shampooing rugs and carpets.Cleaning and dusting walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment.Washing, scrubbing, and disinfecting rest rooms.Moving and rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment.Performing minor repairs to buildings and fixtures, replacing light bulbs as necessary.Maintaining equipment used in the course of work.Correcting or reporting safety, sanitary and fire hazards.Securing locks on doors and windows of assigned buildings.Monitoring the evening building schedule and allows access to appropriate areas of the building; secures building after evening use.Locking down the building in the event of an emergency (during school hours).Setting up, taking down, and arranging chairs, tables and related equipment for evening activities.Directing visitors and safeguarding school propertyMaintaining regular and consistent attendance and punctualityTransport students in a passenger vanFollow route assignmentsKnowledge of immediate geographic areaAbility to work with students in a supervisory, supportive and positive capacityDesire and ability to work a split shift with reliable attendanceStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and proceduresAbility and commitment to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversityAbility to work efficiently with special needs childrenPerforming related duties consistent with job description and assignmentPerform duties of Van Aide or Van Assistant as neededMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalentAbility to drive vans and pass type 10 vehicle test requirements within 1 month of hireClean driving recordAbility to pass all background and fingerprint checks requiredAbility to complete and pass all training requirements within 30 days of hireAbility to attain First Aid, CPR and ICC Physical cards within 30 days of hirePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Light Repetitive Work:Floor level: occasionally; scraping gum, pulling staplesKnee level: occasionally; cleaning desksWaist level: continuously cleaning desks, vacuumingShoulder level: frequently; cleaning shelves, gathering suppliesOverhead level: frequently, changing light bulbs, dusting, washing windowsBending: frequently; toilet bowls, tablesTwisting: frequently, mopping, vacuuming, operating floor machine, waxing floors, shampooing carpetSquatting: picking up items from the floorKneeling/crawling: awkward positions, i.e. cleaning the base of desks, pulling staples out of carpetGarbage Cans: lifted up and dumped into dumpstersVisual acuity to monitor students and student activitiesHearing and speaking to exchange information and monitor student behavior and communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversationDexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipmentPhysical agility to lift and carry light objects; bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching and reaching in all directions to assist studentsSitting or standing for extended periods of timeMental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an efficient fashion
WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
