EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel and provisions of the bargaining unit.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must be physically able to lift 75 pounds.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Working knowledge of custodial housekeeping procedures
- Working knowledge of chemicals used and their safe use
- Ability to use all custodial equipment
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Good health, physical stamina, fitness and vitality
REPORT TO: Director of Facilities and Safety
JOB GOALS:
- To clean and set up everything in assigned work area.
- To handle emergencies and make report if needed.
- To have a good working relationship with co-workers.
- To represent Whitehall City Schools when meeting the public.
- To gain an understanding of all operations of the job.
- To do the best job possible at all times, and to use time to the best advantage.
- To maintain district building cleanliness standards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
(I) Clean Restrooms, Locker Rooms and Shower Rooms:
Daily:
- Remove any debris from toilets
- Clean and disinfect toilet bowels and seats
- Replace and secure toilet paper supply
- Clean and disinfect urinals including plumbing
- Place deodorant blocks in urinals when available
- Clean and disinfect wash basin
- Fill soap dispensers
- Clean mirrors
- Remove any writing in the restroom
- Clean any dirt or marks on walls and doors
- Clean and disinfect all floor areas
- Deodorize restrooms
- Report any plumbing or maintenance difficulties
(II) Clean Classrooms
Daily:
- Sweep floors and carpet including under desks and other moveable objects
- Empty pencil sharpeners and trash cans
- Pick up any paper on the floors
- Clean chalk trays
- Clean wash basin
- Replace paper towel supply
- Spot mop all areas as needed
- Remove all spots and marks on walls
Weekly:
- Dust furniture and equipment (Wednesdays or as otherwise directed)
- Clean chalkboards (Unless otherwise directed)
(III) Other Building Duties
Daily:
- Clean gymnasium and stage:
- Sweep, mop and otherwise maintain hallways
- Perform any temporary repairs needed to secure building
- Perform any other temporary repairs
- Secure all doors and windows
- Turn on alarm system
- Perform duties as needed regarding evening uses of building, example:
Secure area
- Keep custodial closets clean, safe and orderly
- Perform special instruction for maintenance as directed by head custodian
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal
- Check and report to head custodian non-working outside lights
- Clean heater and exhaust filters - monthly
- Minor desk and chair repair
- Replace light bulbs
- Replace ballasts
- Replace ceiling tile
- Baseboards
- Floor tile
- Minor plugged drains
- Painting
- Wax floors
- Sanding and refinishing
- Small construction and carpentry
- Assembly of equipment
- Minor electrical repairs
- Belt replacement
- Other items as deemed necessary and assigned by the principal or
Daytime Custodian Duties
- Unlock entrance doors at appropriate time
- Lock entrance doors after the start of school
- Clean Entrance door glass
- Check and Clean outside entrance way
- Dust mop hallways ( morning, after lunch )
- Check restrooms ( after every class change)
- Clean outside grounds
- Monitor lunchroom
- Clean lunchroom after lunch
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel and provisions of the bargaining unit.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Excellent observation and communication skills
- May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
- Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
