Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Capitol Campus Event Management & Scheduling, the Senior Event Coordinator plans and executes various mid- and high-level events in support of the Universitys mission, and provides assistance to other staff members in the OEM for larger, more complex events happening both on the Capitol Campus and at locations off site. The person in this position will both work independently on numerous events and will support other team members as needed on a myriad of other large scale events. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and manage event budgets, produce timelines, and work with the event sponsor on all aspects of the program.

  • Assist with Law Commencement planning, to include three days of events (two Celebration Days on the Law Campus and the formal Commencement ceremony on the Hilltop), maintaining a sustained focus to ensure that we have enough staff volunteers to cover the entire weekend.

  • Manage an array of events including conferences, symposia, faculty events, Capitol Campus orientation, Law Reunion and a wide variety of receptions, dinners and special events.

Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Capitol Campus Event Management & Scheduling. The senior event coordinator provides leadership and guidance to the event coordinator and the event assistant and supports other members of the events team as needed under the direction of the Executive Director. As indicated above, this position is an integral part of the overall operations in special events.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree; Undergraduate degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field is preferred

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in the event planning field

  • Familiarity with working in an academic or non-profit environment is preferred, along with the ability to work without close supervision

  • Ability to interface with the public and maintain highly confidential information with professional discretion

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Familiarity with EMS, Social Tables, and Cvent is a plus

  • This position requires analytical judgment, competent decision-making skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands in an office that plans hundreds of events during the year

  • A high degree of autonomy and initiative is expected

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$20.16 - $31.30

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidates individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the Universitys business needs and external factors.
