Nature of Work

Semi-skilled responsibility for providing routine cleaning and maintenance services to assigned city buildings. Work is performed at the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Center. This position reports to the Recreation Manager.

Essential Functions of Work

  • Performs building cleaning services, including floor sweeping and waxing; dusting and polishing furniture; washing windows and walls; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; cleaning pool deck floors and locker rooms.
  • Fills and maintains all product dispensers in locker rooms and changing rooms.
  • Ensures that facility is clean and presentable to community and staff for operations.
  • Conducts checks of building security by ensuring all doors and windows are properly secured after normal business hours.
  • Performs minor building maintenance repairs, including changing light bulbs; conducting minor electrical repairs; oiling heater motors and pumps; and other similar activities.
  • Arranges and performs setup of chairs, tables and other equipment for various meetings and special events.
  • Performs some snow removal and outdoor grounds maintenance.
  • Opens and closes bathrooms in Lions Park for special events and rentals.

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in building cleaning and maintenance desirable.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Montana driver's license.

Requirements of Work

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in building cleaning and maintenance, basic hand tools.
  • Working knowledge of the use of hot water heaters, energy efficient furnaces, and related equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Flexible with schedules and cleaning routines to accommodate events, swim meets and daily operations of facility.
  • Completes weekly checklist of maintenance issues reporting to Recreation Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not supervise staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Frequent exposure to chemicals used for cleaning and noise and occasional exposure to cold, snow, heat, and wind.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, twist, reach, bend, climb, crawl, push, pull, grasp, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 75 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate building cleaning equipment, basic hand tools and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

The work schedule is 3 nights weekly, (4-6 hours) either Friday - Sunday or Saturday - Monday. This position is part-time, non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
