General Description: The substitute custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the building so that students and staff members can work and learn in an environment that is sanitary, clean, and orderly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cleaning and Sanitation
Ensure building(s) and grounds are clean and ready to fulfill the various needs of students and staff members.
Provide a safe environment for student and staff by eliminating hazards
Dispose of trash and/or waste materials
Maintain a clean and tidy custodial closet
Maintenance
Maintain floors, walls, doors, windows, furniture and fixtures.
Report all incidents of damage or missing items to the buildings to the Chief Custodian
Ensure safe conditions on walks, driveways, and parking areas at all times, and may include snow removal.
Assist in loading and unloading supplies, equipment from carriers as assigned.
Maintain applicable equipment and ensure it is inspected regularly to assure safety and compliance.
Maintain appropriate inventories of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment
Physical Demands
Continuous moderate effort or physical activity required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently climb, crawl, and kneel. Frequently carry or move objects more than 25 pounds and occasionally move objects of up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
The employee will regularly work indoors and occasionally work outdoors, possibly in adverse weather conditions, in outdoor duties as assigned.

Evaluate cleanup and maintenance needs and utilizing available resources to meet student needs
Manage time and multiple tasks, prioritizing as needed to best serve students
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations that may arise
Communicate effectively with students and the school community
Operation of equipment, including, but not limited to buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, extractors, lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, etc.
Abilities
Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
