J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Food Service Specialist to join our team in Norman, OK. The Food Service Specialist will provide assistance and support in the food service department to help ensure the dietary needs are met for our disabled and developmentally challenged pediatric patients, birth to 21.

The ideal candidate is dependable, reliable, punctual, and enjoys helping others. This person must follow proper dress and hygiene protocols for a kitchen environment. This person must be able to effectively communicate with the dietary team.

Pay: $15.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:

Operates the dish machine according to the proper procedure. Keeps dish room/kitchen area in the Main building and School area clear of dirty dishes and hand washes items when necessary. Maintains temperature and sanitizer log in all dish room areas daily.

Assists with food preparation in the main, school, and catering kitchens to include but not limited to plating food, preparation of food, chopping, pureeing, proper food temperatures, proper portion control, specialized diets according to specific diet orders etc. Prepare patient trays for meals which include appropriate adaptive equipment.

As needed or assigned by the Food Service Manager or Certified Dietary Manager, prepares all modified and special diets according to production schedule and menu. Ensure the modified diets are prepared at the same time the meal is being prepared. Assures the production of modified meals is of high quality to include having good taste and texture.

Completes cleaning as assigned by daily/weekly schedules to include but not limited to cleaning the main kitchen and dish room; schools kitchen and dish room, and catering kitchen by sweeping and mopping floors, deck scrub and squeegee floors weekly, sanitizing all surfaces. Maintains a clean work area daily to include sanitation and organization of work area and daily wiping of walls.

Organize, transport, and routinely stock deliveries for school and hospital units. Routinely transports breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals to hospital units and school by loading the meals for delivery and delivering them to designated location. Assist with the school meal set-up and serving of the meal.

As needed or assigned by the Certified Dietary Manager, manages the POS collection system during the hospital employee lunch period. Correctly enters selected food items on the POS system to deduct credit from employee meal accounts according to established policies and procedures. Notifies supervisor if issues arise with the POS system or employee. May be instructed by supervisor to contact the Finance Office for additional support.

Demonstrates safety awareness during the entire shift and while performing assigned tasks to include appropriate lifting techniques, awareness of surroundings, using equipment properly, following policy guidelines when lifting/pushing/pulling and using proper body mechanics. Follows all policies and procedures relating to kitchen safety and sanitation 100% of the time. Follows and complies with department policy for lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds and obtains assistance for weights over 25 pounds. Follows infection control policy, procedures, and guidelines by using proper hand-washing techniques and maintaining good personal hygiene.

Assists in the implementation of the established inventory and delivery system. To include inspection of items upon delivery, document acceptance, rotation and date stock based on the FIFO method (First In First Out). As directed by the Certified Dietary Manager, assist in the preparation of patients snacks and the delivery to the school and hospital units.

Assists the Certified Dietary Manager with QAPI data collection which includes inventory, food cost, meal count, dating, inventory, temperature logs, etc.

Attends scheduled departmental meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
