Performs skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural systems. Primary job duties will be related to the electrical field..
Examples of Work Performed:
- Performs skilled maintenance work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of electrical, HVAC & plumbing systems by inspecting and testing elements of those systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
- Remodels existing structures according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used; developing a plan or lay out for the project or following a blueprint, sketch or schematic; assembling, fabricating or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work.
- Performs basic plumbing work by repairing existing plumbing and pipe lines, replacing washers in valves, installing plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, water heaters, and connecting them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting with gaskets, couplings, traps, and valves, and soldering connections to seal joints, and opening clogged drains and stopped-up toilets.
- Performs basic electrical work by replacing faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, breakers, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment.
- Be available for weekend firing & substitute custodian in all the district facilities.
- Contributes to the overall success of the Maintenance Department by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain District grounds.
- Snow removal.
- Supervise summer grounds crew
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Requires general mechanical ability, which includes skills in the use of electrical/mechanical test equipment, and small hand and power tools, mechanical equipment and materials applicable to the mechanical trades.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
- Skill in operating/maintaining grounds equipment and tools including snow removal equipment.
- Must be able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent.
- Completion of a vocational/technical school course relating to facility maintenance and/or a recognized apprenticeship program in facility maintenance.
- Significant facility maintenance experience (minimum 7 years) beyond that required for this position and a demonstrated ability in one of the trades (facility maintenance, electrician, and plumber or HVAC technician) may be substituted for the required vocational/technical school or apprenticeship.
- Valid driver's license required.
- State of Wisconsin Electricians license, preferred.
- Must be able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis; and working in confined spaces. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the District, including climbing stairs in all the District buildings, and to work at heights. Work is performed indoors and out-of-doors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards.
- Scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, cleaners, and lubricants common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
- Must have an attitude of cooperation with other departments.
- Basic computer skills. Experience working with Google suite
