Who You Are The Episcopal Academy seeks a dedicated and experienced Groundskeeper to join our Facilities and Operations team. This role is responsible for the routine care, design, and maintenance of our campus's diverse plantings, trees, container features, and overall landscape, ensuring a pristine and inviting environment for the entire community. What You Will Do Planting, watering, fertilizing, cultivating, and pruning a wide variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees using various tools and equipment. Designing and implementing seasonal flower displays in containers and hanging baskets, as well as developing and executing new landscape designs. Detecting and reporting evidence of disease, insects, and plant damage, and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies. Edging and maintaining landscape beds, trimming hedges, raking and disposing of leaves and debris, and contributing to a trash-free campus. Assisting the Grounds Superintendent with the campus pruning schedule, helping to educate crew members on proper horticultural skills and techniques, and contributing to general grounds maintenance. Cleaning and caring for tools and equipment, and operating grounds machines as needed. Assisting with snow removal, including shoveling, salting, sanding, and operating snow removal vehicles and equipment (requires 24-hour on-call availability during inclement weather). About You The ideal candidate for the Groundskeeper at The Episcopal Academy will possess the following: A 2-year or 4-year degree in horticultural maintenance or a related field. At least 5 years of hands-on experience on a maintenance staff, preferably in a campus or large institutional setting. Comprehensive knowledge of trees, shrubs, perennial, and annual plants. Ability to identify disease or insect damage and implement effective IPM strategies. Working knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and machinery used in grounds maintenance. Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities, a "can-do" attitude, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to share horticultural knowledge with team members. Ability to obtain a PA pesticide applicator license within 90 days of hire date. Ability to walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods and lift or carry 70 lbs or more, and reach in any direction.
