Under general supervision, leads and participates in the performance of grounds, construction and maintenance work; to do other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads, participates and reports on the work assigned to groundskeepers or other grounds personnel performing work in the construction, care and maintenance of district grounds areas;

Leads and participates while working with groundskeepers in a variety of duties such as mowing, edging, pruning, planting, routine sprinkler work and minor equipment maintenance; requisitions tools, equipment, supplies and materials;

Prepares reports for labor and any materials used in grounds maintenance jobs;

Trains employees in methods, safety and procedures used in grounds construction and maintenance work;

Operates power grounds equipment when assigned such as large power mowers, power edgers and trimmers, trucks and tractors;

Fills, levels, rolls, smoothes, and prepares grounds for planting of lawns or paving;

Leads and supervises a small crew in leveling grounds for athletic fields, trims and prunes trees and shrubs;

Sprays for weed and insect control;

Leads and participates in general grounds clean-up.

Repairs and installs fences and operates a truck in transporting equipment and in hauling soil, fertilizer and other materials used in grounds construction and maintenance work.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Two years of responsible experience in general grounds maintenance, including the operation of tractors, trucks and large power mowers; or,

two years of experience at/or equivalent to the level of Groundskeeper; or, one year as a Grounds Equipment Operator with the .

Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.
