Job Description
Glens Falls City School District has an anticipated opening for a Supervising Custodian at Glens Falls High School. This is a 12-month, full-time position. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
The work involves responsibility for overseeing the cleaning of a number of buildings. Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Facilities or other administrator with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in keeping buildings & facilities up to approved standards of cleanliness and operation. Supervision is exercised over the work of custodian personnel performing activities related to the incumbent's assigned area of responsibility. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
Plans, assigns and supervises custodial work in the district in conjunction with Director of Facilities
Makes inspections of MS/HS buildings to determine the cleanliness and efficient use of supplies and materials
Plans and schedules training sessions for custodial personnel with assistance from the Director of Facilities
Authorizes the purchase of supplies and materials not covered by contract bids
Maintains appropriate record of custodial supplies utilizing district-wide central warehouse and vendor online ordering for inventory and orders at all buildings
Assigns employee coverage, including substitutes, when regular employees are unable to report to work at all buildings
Assists in preparing and implementing custodial evaluation program along with Director of Facilities
Provides an attractive education environment in terms of safety and cleanliness that will satisfy students, teachers, administrators and parents
Assures that the school facilities are properly secured to discourage trespassing and thefts
Provides set-up services to meet the needs of school sponsored activities, as well as by outside groups
Performs exterior grounds work adjacent to the building as needed, including but not limited to, trash pick-up, snow removal, spring and fall cleanup
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Good ability to plan and supervise the work of others;
Good knowledge of building and cleaning practices, supplies and equipment;
Working knowledge of the tools, terminology and practices of one or more skilled trades;
Ability to follow moderately difficult oral and written directions;
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing;
Thoroughness; resourcefulness; dependability; strong customer service skills; good judgment.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and
Three (3) years of experience in building cleaning or maintenance work and two (2) years of experience supervising the work of others;
Three (3) years of experience in any of the standard mechanical trades, construction trades or closely related field, and two (2) years of experience supervising the work of others.
