JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview
Philo Ridge Farm is seeking a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to support our culinary program, with a primary focus on dishwashing and general kitchen cleanliness. As an essential member of the culinary team, the Kitchen Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized dish area, washing and sanitizing dishes, utensils, and equipment to ensure a steady supply of clean wares during service. This entry-level role also includes assisting with basic kitchen tasks such as food prep, packaging, and cleaning workstations and storage areas. The Kitchen Porter helps uphold food safety standards, supports proper ingredient rotation, and contributes to smooth kitchen operations through clear, ongoing communication with team members. The Kitchen Porter role can be a full-time or part-time position requiring a flexible schedule, including availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
Responsibilities
Keep the dish area and kitchen equipment clean, organized, and running smoothly
Set up and clean workstations quickly and efficiently
Follow safe food handling and kitchen safety procedures
Use and maintain kitchen and restaurant equipment properly
Help with staff meals, special events, and other kitchen needs
Take out trash, recycling, and compost; transport waste to designated areas
Support the team with other tasks as needed
Qualifications
Interest in food and working in a kitchen environment
Reliable, on time, and ready to work
Positive attitude and respectful to team members and guests
Works well with others, takes initiative, and is open to feedback
Able to work well both independently and as part of a team
Physically capable of standing or walking for extended periods, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, and working in a range of indoor and outdoor conditions
Comfortable working around heat, cold, and water
Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food safety is preferred
Compensation
Compensation ranges from $18 to $25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
