Maintenance Worker-Electrical Plumbing

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for assisting on-site leadership of maintenance and repair services for assigned district facilities or specific trades area. Assist District Electrical Journeymen and Electrical Apprentice to maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so it may be fully used at all times.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Specific knowledge of one craft used in building repair and maintenance including carpentry; electrical repair; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; painting; or plumbing
  • General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance
  • Ability to direct and supervise personnel
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Effective organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Four years’ experience in a craft field preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties: All under certified Electrical Journeyman’s Supervision

  1. Assist in Maintaining preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all Electrical/Plumbing equipment. Perform Electrical/Plumbing quality testing as needed.
  2. Assist in Receiving and complete work orders. Select materials and hardware, make time and materials cost estimates, and maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  3. Assist in Inspecting jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  4. Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize most efficient, cost-effective use of Electrical/Plumbing energy.
Safety
  1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

  1. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  2. Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  3. Assist in recruiting, screening, selection, training, and evaluation of maintenance employees.
  4. Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards, tardiness, and absenteeism).
  5. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Safety
  1. Provide training and orientation to all skilled workers in safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  4. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
