Job Title: Grounds Lead Technician

Primary Purpose:
To oversee the maintenance all school district yards, gardens, and flowerbeds as needed.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Valid Texas driver's license
Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of gardening and landscape maintenance
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and landscape plans
Ability to operate a 75 horsepower tractor, riding or power mower, power tools and hand tools
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
Five (5) years' experience in gardening and landscape maintenance
Two (2) years' related experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Mow and detail all district grounds.
Maintain district property through asphalt patching, concrete work and fence installation.
Care for trees, shrubs and flowers by pruning, fertilizing, mulching and caring for beds by controlling weeds.
Plant shrubs and vegetation.
Assist the Grounds Foreman in overseeing the application of fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals used by the district.
Assist with the storage and use of all pest control chemicals, equipment, tools and supplies to ensure they are secure and safe.
Assist with welding projects as needed.
Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish and refuse from district facilities.
Assist with the inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler systems.
Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Supervisor immediately.
Help keep vehicle, equipment and tools in safe, operating condition.
Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
Other:
Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast to innovative techniques in grounds operations.
Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Groundskeepers, Grounds Leads
Equipment Used:
All types of chain saws, pole tree saw, electric/gas edger, hedge sheers, weed eater, walk behind gas mowers/tillers, riding mowers, farm/lawn tractors and out front/zero turning mowers.
Knowledge with the use, care and maintenance of sprayers, garden and hand tools as needed.
Light truck or van including trailer.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Typical school atmosphere. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, with exposure to dust, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), loud noises, and working on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Frequent district wide travel.
