Job Summary

Schedule Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday 2:30p-11:00p & Holiday Rotation

Summary:

The Lead Housekeeper plays a key role in supporting the hospitals mission by ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across all hospital departments, patient areas, and support spaces. In addition to performing routine and discharge cleaning, the Lead Housekeeper serves as a team leader, assisting with staff coordination, training, quality assurance, and communication with hospital staff, patients, and the public.

Essential Functions:

Leadership & Coordination:

Assist the supervisor in scheduling and assigning daily tasks, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

Train and mentor new Environmental Services (ESD) staff.

Support time-off scheduling and shift coverage planning.

Monitor staff compliance with dispatch and workflow procedures.

Perform or support higher-level tasks in preparation for increased responsibilities.

Participate in departmental meetings, trainings, and quality assurance initiatives.

Inspect designated areas to ensure cleanliness and compliance with hospital standards.

Help maintain strong public relations with staff, patients, and visitors.

Environmental Services Duties:

Perform the 8-step cleaning process, including daily and discharge cleaning, bed making, wall spotting, toilet and floor care, high/low dusting, and O.R. terminal cleaning.

Handle collection and proper disposal of solid and contaminated waste.

Disinfect I.V. poles, pumps, and other equipment during discharge cleaning.

Maintain all assigned equipment in clean and working condition; report repair needs promptly.

Hang and replace cubicle, shower, and window curtains as needed.

Perform advanced floor and carpet care techniques, including spray buffing, burnishing, stripping, refinishing, bonneting, and extracting.

Ensure safety standards are followed by properly using caution signs and maintaining a safe work environment.

Clean up organic waste (e.g., blood, feces, body fluids) following safety and infection control protocols.

Learn and apply new healthcare cleaning procedures as required.

Assist with or perform duties as needed to support ESD management goals.

Standards. - Requires manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods of time. - Performs all Environmental Services related tasks and demonstrates ability to follow department guidelines related to the work. - Performs basic and heavier cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods. - Performs all environmental services tasks demonstrating services orientation to fellow employees, staff and patients. - Cleans patient equipment as requested by supervisor including beds and all room furnishings. - Assists in manpower support for office and/or related moves, special conference room set-ups and any other occasions as required. - Competent in using the proper chemicals for the proper tasks. - Ability to perform cleaning of emergency spills when observed and/or up on request. - In case of community disaster, assist nursing in making up extra beds and other duties as assigned.
