Title:SUMMER/PART TIME/TEMPORARY TRANSPORTATION WORKER 20 Hours weekly
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Salary: Custodian $16.48 hr
Nature of Work
An employee in this class performs a variety of custodial, unskilled and laborer maintenance task maintaining school facilities and vehicles. Work involves general custodial work and limited vehicle maintenance tasks including vehicle washing, vehicle interior cleaning, and shuttling buses between bus lots. Work requires the employee to use various hand tools and small motorized equipment. Work involves the performance of varied tasks requiring familiarity with and some competence in basic trade practices. Much of the work is carried out in accordance with established maintenance schedules; however, specific instructions and close supervision are received on new and special assignments. Employee must have the ability to execute details of work according to specific instructions and be able to adapt to frequent and varying changes in the work schedule. Some independent judgment is exercised in performing daily work activities and the employee is often assigned and responsible for specific work areas and/or buildings. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation and in terms of the efficiency with which assigned tasks are completed.
Illustrative Examples of Work
Gathers tools and supplies to be used at the work site.
Loads and unloads materials and supplies.
Assists in a helper role in all general trades areas.
Use of some power and hand tools.
Sweeps floors and washes windows.
Moves buses between different bus lots and bus garage as needed.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of the standard practices, materials and equipment related to various building trades and school bus maintenance.
Some knowledge of the safe and proper use and maintenance of various hand and power tools used in building and vehicle maintenance work.
Ability to use various hand and power tools used in building and vehicle maintenance work.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to drive vehicles as needed (Procession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver License is preferred).
Ability to exercise independent initiative.
