Position Description
Responsible for keeping the buildings clean, orderly, and presentable to students, faculty, and the public.
Position Responsibilities
35% - The custodian is responsible for keeping the buildings clean, orderly, and presentable to students, faculty, and the public. Responsible to clean and maintain entrances, hallways, floors and windows, Removes all trash from buildings on a daily basis. Uses specific cleaning products and a variety of cleaning equipment (brooms, mops, vacuums, etc) in order to maintain a neat and clean environment.35% - Responsible to clean restrooms, laboratories, locker rooms, classrooms, offices and their contents (desks, chairs, tables, chalkboards, window blinds, carpet, mats, etc) and all other building areas following departmental standards.5% -
Help set up for seminars, activities, and other functions as directed by the Custodial Supervisor. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Custodial Supervisor, the Coordinator of Facility Management, The Dean of Administration, the President, and the Board of Trustees.
5% - Assist in other areas on campus with special activities or events.5% - Supervise and assign duties to work-study students assigned to buildings.5% - Responsible to check Emergency Lights monthly, reports equipment problems, maintenance problems on campus - (ie lights, doors not functioning etc) to the Custodial Supervisor.5% - Shampoo carpets and/or refinish floors, yearly or as needed.5% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Expectations
Knowledge of general custodial duties and responsibilities. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines.
Must be flexible and willing to work different buildings and shifts.3. Occasional overtime and/or weekend hours may be requested.4. Ability to learn complicated tasks &/or work as a team and cohesive unit on assigned projects and tasks.5. Must possess pride in their abilities and willing to work hard.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience - Six months to two years of similar or related experience.Education - A high school education or GED.Interpersonal Skills - Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Physical Requirements
The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computer, printers or record boxes. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Job requires average agility and dexterity.Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as: body fluids, toxic laboratory, industrial chemicals, confined, dirty, and noisy locations. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
Wages/Other
The hourly rate for the Custodian position is $17.20 to $19.19.
