Performs intermediate semiskilled and skilled work in a variety of building maintenance assignments. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The hiring range for this position is from $19.85/hour to $27.30/hour based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is from $19.85/hour to $34.74/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
  • Performs general building maintenance and repair activities; performs carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks; paints buildings, equipment and facilities;
  • Performs carpentry, electrical, masonry, drywall, mechanical, electronic, and plumbing repair and maintenance work;
  • Prepares surfaces for painting, paints walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, and equipment;
  • Frames and lays out work to perform carpentry tasks; repairs walls and furniture;
  • Installs and replaces receptacles and switches; pulls wire; installs light fixtures, ballasts, conduit, and computer wires;
  • Repairs plumbing facilities and fixtures;
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical, electronic, refrigeration and air conditioning malfunctions; repairs electric motors;
  • Installs, services and repairs heating and air conditioning equipment;
  • Prepares, mixes, and matches various paints, chemicals, and additives;
  • Prepares reports, work orders, time sheets, logs, and records;
  • Designs painting projects, estimates materials needs, and purchases materials;
  • Prepares and installs signs;
  • Refinishes furniture; moves furniture;
  • Picks up and delivers furniture and supplies;
  • Prepares meeting rooms;
  • Assists with snow and ice removal;
  • Assists other building mechanics and custodians;
  • Performs custodial duties as assigned;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • General knowledge of maintenance, repair, and manual tasks of the area assigned;
  • General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work;
  • General knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment required in the work;
  • Skill in the use of equipment to which assigned;
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods;
  • Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications;
  • Ability to follow instructions;
  • Ability to estimate needed material and time required for various jobs;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) to three (3) years of experience as a semiskilled or skilled worker in the maintenance, repair, painting, and/or construction activity to which assigned.
